Luc Besançon is the Founder and CEO of Pharmacy and Consulting, a consulting firm specialised in community pharmacy, with three major domains: innovations and new services, pharmacy policies and partnerships between pharmacy and its key stakeholders.
Luc completed his Doctorat d’État en Pharmacie (PharmD) in 2004 further to an education in France (Université de Bourgogne) and Canada (Université Laval). He also completed a Master’s Degree in Communication (major in European Public Relations) at Paris V – La Sorbonne in 2003.
Prior to creating Pharmacy and Consulting, Luc had worked for almost ten years at the International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP), including 5 years as the CEO at this global federation which gathers 140 national associations of pharmacists and pharmaceutical scientists.
Prior to FIP, he had worked for five years as a professional adviser for international affairs and for pharmacists’ competence at the Ordre national des pharmaciens, the French body in charge of the regulation of pharmacists.
Afonso holds presently an Associate Professor position at the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Lisbon as well as a visitant professorship (Docent) at the University of Helsinki (Finland). He is responsible for undergraduate social pharmacy teaching as well as postgraduate courses (MSc and Doctoral Programs), lecturing Health Communication, Pharmacy Management and Research Methods in Health. Afonso’s teaching experience comprises also one year of fulltime work at the University of Oslo (Norway).
Presently his main research interests are on customer-provider interaction studies (including non-verbal communication), health information research and patient safety. In this sense, he has been invited to lecture on health communication and qualitative research at several European and Latin American public Universities.
